Great News for Foodies in Coconut Grove: Our Options Are Wonderfully Complicated.
Sushi Garage is nestled in the remodeled CocoWalk's retail level. Led by chef and partner Sunny Oh, Karu Chang and pastry chef Gregory Gourreau, Sushi Garage brings a breadth of style and cuisine rooted in Japanese culture. From their iconic paper koi fish above, dark wood decor and pops of signature mint green accessories throughout, walking into their restaurant will soon deliver a new bar of style for a Grove eatery. While their menu can be explored at length for their Miami Beach location, I believe that it will integrate nicely into providing options that our other Japanese restaurants offer. Specifically speaking is Sushi Maki, which does an amazing job at providing style and cuisine at an affordable price, Sushi Garage adds one extra element of main courses for that slightly more formal evening meal you could be looking for. Get ready for a Miso Maple Sea Bass, Sliced Tenderloin Teriyaki and Center Cut Tenderloin main dishes. Pair them with some custom sides like the eggplant caviar or bok choy and dip away with unique sauces like the Chili Tosazu (very spicy) or the house made Ponzu. The sushi rolls, sashimi and hand roll selections are fantastic as well but seek out the Wagyu Black Garlic Nigiri or King Crab Yuzu Chili Nigiri; they are a must have.
New does not always mean great, but in this case it really, really is. Downtown Coconut Grove has pulled off an astounding recovery from a what's NOT dining location to a what's HOT, HUB of GRUB. Sushi Garage will only add to this wave of deliciousness. So until opening day, I'll have to just keep enjoying all of the other fantastic food choices always popping up around our City's and Neighborhood's until I can park myself at their bar and absorb a new atmosphere right here in the heart of the Grove.
